Measures to Take After a Car Accident

Auto Insurance – July 8, 2016

For car drivers and owners, when out and about, a car accident is one of the worst things that can happen to you. There can be expensive damage to your car, other people’s cars and the horrific prospect of causing injury or death to yourself, your passengers, people in the other car(s) or other people nearby.

Cars are designed with features which can lessen the impact from a car accident, which reduce the risk of serious injury as well as reducing the damage to your car. Cars are the safest they have ever been, and specialty features have been developed to both protect the vehicle and its passengers.

Write Off

When the damage to a car is really severe, and there is no chance that it can be repaired back to a proper condition without spending more than what the vehicle is actually worth, it is written off. There is no point in paying out to repair the vehicle when the end result isn’t worth the money that you have spent.

Repairs

Most vehicles, unless they are in a really serious accident, can be repaired and back on the road in no time. The cost of this would normally be covered by either your insurance company or the party who was responsible for the accident – unless the damage was extremely minimal.

The benefit of letting an insurance company pay for the repair is that it’s in their best interests to make sure that the job is done properly. If your vehicle leaves the garage with anything less than a perfect repair, there is the risk of problems occurring in the future or potentially another accident, which of course they wouldn’t what happening. So your insurance company will do everything to ensure that your vehicle is as safe, or possibly even safer than it was when you were driving it on the day of the accident.

What to Do if You Have Been in a Car Accident

If you are involved in a car accident, your first priority is to make sure that everyone involved is safe. You should seek medical assistance for anyone who needs it.

You should then take the insurance and contact information of the other vehicle(s) involved, but never admit fault. Take photos if you can, it would help in ascertaining fault and proving what actually happened.

It is a good idea to call the Police – even if you think that you don’t need them – often insurance companies will require a police report or incident number for you to claim. You should then report your car accident to your insurance company.

Any damage to a vehicle could be costly and inconvenient, however, you should put your mind at rest knowing that the insurance company will organize the repair, making sure your vehicle is back to normal and perfectly safe to drive again.
